About Ken Frischkorn

Ken Frischkorn I was born 31 March 1955 in Altoona, Pennsylvania and lived there until I was five. From 5 until I was 11 my family moved around a lot, we lived in Miami Beach, Florida for a time, moved back to Pennsylvania lived there for a time, moved to Connecticut for a year or two moved back to Pennsylvania for a short time then moved to Toledo, Ohio. After my family moved to Ohio I would spend my summers with my Grandparents in Pennsylvania until I was 16.

I met my wife and best friend in the fall of 1969 and we married in July of 1972 together we raised two wonderful boys who are now grown with families of their own. In the spring of 1982 I joined the United States Army and had my 26h birthday in basic training, for next twenty one years I served both in the United States and Germany as well as the first Gulf war.

I have always had a love for art and photography in particular, as a young man I was always taking photographs of family and friends as well as nature and landscape. I took art classes in high school and had piece jewelry and a textile design that was selected for a High school art show at the Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio. For a short period of time I worked freelance in photography until I entered the Army. During my time in the Army there was little time for photography although I still on occasion found time for my hobby but not as much as I would have liked.

After retiring from the Army in February 2002 and with the support of my wife, and a little push I again returned to photography as a hobby. As time passed I became more passionate and more proficient in my photography, and again found the love I once had for it. I have also been able to share my love of photography with my wife, as now both of us spend time out photographing together whenever we can. My wife has always been supportive of whatever I wanted to do and has stood by me this past 40 years, it is wonderful to be able to have a hobby we both love and enjoy to do together.

I am a member of our local gallery in Leesville, Louisiana; Gallery 111 on third street, next to the Historic Court House just a little plug for our gallery. It has been nice to have a place to display my work and to enjoy the work of other artists. I have also had work selected for a juried show at the Natchitoches Art Guild, Natchitoches, Louisiana and my wife also had one of her works selected. I have had photographs selected two years in a row and this is my wife’s first year for our juried show at Gallery 111, I have had photographs selected for the Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce calendar in 2010 and 2012. I have had one of my photographs selected among others to represent Vernon Parish at the Lieutenant Governor’s Bicentennial celebration of the 200th anniversary of Louisiana as a State.

Enjoy and Thanks for stopping by and viewing my work.
